Project 4 & Write up

In this I decided to use text alone to create a Intro feel into the beginning or advertisement of a tabloid. In this project I used a series of animated camera angles, sure targets, motion blur, and particles to create a accelerated movement through the composite. I decided not to included images this time and just animate the text itself. The particles help create a form of depth within the piece as it rotates, and the motion blur adds to the spin.

  1. The effects you've achieved here are really nice and well executed, it looks like a legit commercial. I would keep a slight movement on the letters like they are drifting in space and more shimmer on the background stars when the camera stops on them.

  2. I really like the use of the camera. At first I was overwhelmed by how fast it was going, like I wanted it to slow down, but after watching again I feel like it captures the concept. They are shifting from one to the next and being hit from every angle so quickly. That represents how overwhelmed people feel when they are being talked about, like it wont stop coming from every angle. So as far as that is concerned, great job. As far as aesthetically, I don't think tabloid is conveyed because I relate those horribly embarrassing photos with a tabloid. If maybe those headlines had an image it would be more appropriate. I think the concept of tabloid could be pushed more.

  3. I like the motion of the piece and think what you did here with the text is great for your concept. It reminds of some stuff you see on History and E! networks. I think you could push it in a different direction to make it sparkle. Like how during the 20s and 30s in Hollywood they used a lot of gold, silver, red, and black to show themselves as royalty. It might add another layer of context.

  4. the motion of the camera is wonderful. try to push the letters themselves. the text you have is definitely iconic of the tabloids and things like E! network but the text needs to spring out more. you could try to move the text or maybe do something glitzy like make it shimmer. or maybe the color or opacity changes before the camera moves again.

  5. I agree with everyone. The text is working really well with your concept. There is a lot of movement in z space and your timing is well-executed. The only thing I would probably add is some movement into the background, maybe having a line of text that is farther away in z depth than everything else. Your movie has a nice sense of zooming out, panning left, and panning right in between the shots, but i wonder if there should be some zooming in as well.

  6. I think this purple mass with speckles in it is really cool and I don't understand how you did that! I think the camera motion is spot-on but I agree with above, your text should be more tabloid. I'm also not fond of the "what makes them mad" one. It seems like it becomes to cheesy rhyming at that point.

  7. This is so exceptionally well done! Ok so maybe the "makes them mad" is a little off. And maybe a slow pan across the words instead of a dead stop would work great too. Or I guess... glitter but whatever this is really sharp! I love it!
